As a part of its efforts to sensitize private pharmacists on tuberculosis (TB), Resource Group for Education and Advocacy for Community Health (REACH) in partnership with the State TB Cell (STC), Assam recently organized an ‘Orientation and Training Workshop for Private Pharmacists’ at Mangaldai to enable them to strengthen private sector engagement towards TB elimination in the State.
The workshop attended by around seventy pharmacists who have been practising privately in the district of Darrang discussed the role of the pharmacists who are considered to be the first point of contact for a person with minor cough and fever.
Private pharmacists tend to be members of the local community, familiar with residents, available for long hours and easily accessible. Therefore, engaging local pharmacies to reach out to the community and increase the overall notification of TB cases is crucial.
This was informed in a delayed press statement by REACH, Guwahati .
The workshop was attended by a host of prominent persons including MLA, Mangaldai, Gurujyoti Das, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pankaj Chakravorty , Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang district, Dr R Nunisa ,no of officials of State TB Cell and the State Coordinator of REACH, Arup Jyoti Kalita among others, the statement added.
