Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma on Monday said cultural values must be preserved alongside modernization for all round development of the society.
He said this while addressing the third annual general conference of Tribal Academicians’ Forum held at Saheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma also inaugurated the conference while Minister of Tribal Welfare Mevar Kumar Jamtia was present as guest of honour.
Debbarma in his address also appealed to the academic professionals to contribute as think-tank of the society.
The Tribal Academicians’ Forum comprises of members from different teaching fraternity under all government degree colleges, and universities in Tripura belonging to the scheduled tribe category.
The president of the forum, Dr Babudhan Tripura presided over the conference which was attended by almost 100 academicians.
Later in the afternoon, the forum submitted a charter of demands to the ministers which includes demand for immediate recruitment of assistant professors in Kokborok in all colleges offering the subject, implementation of Roman script for Kokborok, construction of ST boys and girls hostel in all colleges among others.
The forum also demanded continuation of scholarship for ST girls at Banasthali Vidhyapith University and scholarship for pursuing B Ed course for ST students and opening of degree colleges under Jampuijala and Korbook subdivision.
