At a time when the Assam government has been making tall claims about the state-of-the-art healthcare facilities in the state, a pregnant woman in Barpeta district was carried on a handcart and boat to the nearest hospital.
The woman is a resident of Majorchar village in Barpeta and she was carried on handcraft and boat owing to the lack of ambulance service and proper road connectivity.
As per reports, the woman when felt labour pain she carried on a handcart to reach Nagarbera Block Primary Health Centre.
She was also carried on a country-made boat to cross the Brahmaputra river to reach the government hospital.
The victim’s family alleged that even though there are ambulances, however, owing to the dilapidated condition of the roads the ambulances show reluctance to go to their village.
