A pony which was rescued by villagers of Balipara under Kalaigaon police station in Udalguri district of Assam some eight months back during floods from the Noa River is still in the custody of Kalaigaon Police awaiting some benevolent to take care of it.

According to reports,, the pony which came floating in the strong currents of the river Noa was stranded neck deep in the region.

Locals managed to save the animal from drowning and handed over to Kalaigaon police.

But before that two factions of the locals had a big fight over possession of the animal.

However, the police took legal custody of the pony and arranged for medical aid.

According to the Assam Police Act 2007 it clearly states that

‘cattle’ which include cows, buffaloes, elephants, camels, horses, asses, mules, sheep, goats and swine; or any unclaimed property may be taken into action by a police officer for their safe custody and disposal in accordance with the procedure prescribed.

The Kalaigaon Police have been looking for its disposal to any horse rearer at a reasonable amount.
