As Shillong prepares to bid adieu to 2017 and welcome the New Year amid revelry, police will be on their toes to avoid any untoward incident during the celebration. Meghalaya police are gearing up for extra security deployment to ensure that the New Year celebrations pass off peacefully.

In Shillong, the government has deployed additional security for New Year eve. Taking note of a potential spike in alcohol abuse during night parties this season, the police have stepped up vigil.

In a statement issued here, East Khasi Hills superintendent of police, Davis NR Marak exhorted revelers to desist from drinking and driving.

Informing that breath analysers have been issued to all police stations and traffic branches for alcohol test, police will also set up check points around Shillong city to check drunken driving and other nuisance during New Year celebrations. 

The SP also advised citizens to abide by the Supreme Court order and desist from playing loud music after 10 PM.

Wishing everyone a prosperous “New Year” the superintendent of police, urged people to stay safe on the roads and advised revelers to designate drivers who do not drink or drink within the permissible limits.
