A pair of poles of high-tension lines uprooted itself and electrocuted six cows which were grazing on a fallow paddy field in Karbi Anglong on Wednesday.
The high-tension power lines carrying 11,000 volts from Dokmoka to Howraghat, which pass through a fallow paddy field, fell down without any wind, rain or storm at Eradighalpani Gaon under Howraghat Police Station at around 10 am.
Six cows which were grazing in the vicinity were killed due to electrocution on the spot.
The affected farmers have demanded compensation from the State Power Department and said that with the high-tension cable poles falling by itself in the field indicates the irresponsibility on the part of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).
The villagers said that there is another potential location for such disaster as there are bent power poles in a paddy field at On Gaon under Howraghat Police Station. The bent poles have remained so for many years but the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited officials have not taken any initiative in this regard.
