Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi is arriving on a whistle-stop tour to the Northeast today in wake of the impending Lok Sabha elections.

Reports stated that he will hit the campaign trail at Aalo (formerly Along) in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Prime Minister will then arrive in Dibrugarh by noon and will proceed to Moran to address an election rally at 12:50 pm.

From Moran, Modi is scheduled to head to Gohpur at 2:50 pm for electioneering. Gohpur is in Biswanath district of Assam.

Modi will campaign for BJP candidate Rameswar Teli in Moran and for Pallab Lochan Das, the party’s Tezpur nominee, at Gohpur.

Chief minister (CM) Sarbananda Sonowal, NEDA convener Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and other senior office-bearers of the saffron party will accompany the PM in both the places.

A huge turnout is expected in Moran and Gohpur and in the former CM Sonowal is said to have personally monitored the election rally arrangements.

In both Dibrugarh and Tezpur constituencies, the main players are BJP and Congress and a tough fight is expected in both the seats.  The BJP came out trumps in both the seats in the 2014 general elections.

The Congress has nominated former state additional chief secretary MGVK Bhanu as its candidate for the Tezpur constituency and former union minister and senior party leader Paban Singh Ghatowar is the Congress candidate from the Dibrugarh seat.

Modi’s visit has just been preceded by BJP chief Amit Shah’s visit to Assam who addressed election rallies at Kaliabor and Teok on Thursday.
