The swearing in ceremony of the Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu will take place on Wednesday. The Arunachal Pradesh BJP legislature party met at Itanagar on Monday and elected Khandu as their leader.

Later Khandu met governor BD Mishra at Raj Bhavan and staked claim to form the government.

The governor under the provisions of Article 164 (1) of the constitution of India, appointed Khandu to be the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh and invited him to form the government and take oath as the chief minister on May 29 at Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre in Itanagar.

The governor has also urged the chief minister elect to submit a list of others to be appointed as members of his council of ministers.

On Sunday the outgoing cabinet of Arunachal Pradesh held its last meeting and unanimously resolved to request the Governor to dissolve the House so that the new government can be formed.

Following the meeting the ministers tendered their resignations to Khandu.

This is first time that an elected government is likely to take oath in Arunachal Pradesh.

The BJP emerged as the single largest party in Arunachal Pradesh winning 41 out of the total 60 seats.
