Padmashri Jadav Payeng was on Sunday presented Jingle Kid Award by Jingle Kids School in Guwahati.
The award was presented during the third annual day celebration of Jingle Kids School at the Tirupati Balaji Mandir Auditorium in the city.
The daylong programme started with the dhol recital by Somnath Bora Oja, Dhol Samrat and folk researcher.
In between the recitals, Oja narrated the history of dhol and how he took this instrument at musical programmes in more than 25 countries where the people were mesmerised by his performance.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Devajit Mahanta, founder, Jingle Kids School announced that from the current year, the School will select one eminent personality for her/his outstanding service to the community and give her/him the “Jingle Kid Award’ on the occasion of annual day of the school.
This year’s award went to Padmashri Jadav Payeng, the Forest Man of India, who has become famous for creating his own forest by simply planting trees over the years, he said. The award consisted of a Memento, a Xarai, and Rs 15,000 in cash.
Payeng in his speech exhorted upon all present to propagate the campaign for planting more trees. He suggested that a student on admission to a school should plant one tree to ensure oxygen for herself/himself.
After five years, she/he should plant another three to provide oxygen for another person. This way, we can ensure enough oxygen for all along with a healthy environment for mankind.
