One more top militant of Zeliangrong United Front (Kamson) faction fell into security forces’ dragnet at Ramgaijang village under Jirighat police station in Cachar district of Assam on Saturday. The militant has been identified as Adam alias Andi, secretary of ZUF and a resident of Senapati district in Manipur.

Three ZUF (Kamson) faction militants with sophisticated arms and large quantity of ammunition were apprehended by Assam Rifles from Ramgaijang village on Friday morning.

Based on the inputs provided by the three militants, Kadamtala Battalion of Assam Rifles along with police personnel from Jirighat Police Station launched follow up operation and apprehended Adam.

Adam is known to have been carrying out large scale criminal and illegal activities in the area of Jiribam and Cachar District for quite some time now. Assam Rifles official informed Northeast Now that he was holding the portfolio of Secretary of Human Resource & Welfare of ZUF (Kamson) faction and two mobile phones and incriminating documents were recovered from him.

Adam alias Andi was earlier a member of Naga National Council (NNC) & joined ZUF in 2013. The apprehended militant has been handed over to Jirighat Police for further investigation, informed Assam Rifles sources.

This is a major blow to the ZUF operating in Cachar/Jiribam area as the individual is the fifth militant cadre to be arrested in the past one week. This is the second major breakthrough in dismantling the underground structure as in the previous month four cadres of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTPLA) were apprehended and the self styled Commander in Chief of the Army of UTLA (P) was eliminated from the Jiribam area.
