A teenage girl was allegedly tortured and burned by one Deben Terang on February 4.
The incident of torture and burning of the girl came to light only after the victimโs mother revealed this to the police at the Diphu Civil Hospital when she brought her daughter to the hospital for treatment.

An FIR has been lodged with Diphu Police Station by the victimโs mother.
The perpetrator is a resident of Rongplimplam village under Dillai Police Station.
The 17-year-old victim has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since February 4.

The girlโs mother informed Simeon Rongphar, the president of Karbi Students Association (KSA) and other social organisations about the matter.
The victimโs mother said that her daughter rejected Terangโs offer of marriage as she came to know that he was married though the man claimed that he was a bachelor.
Terang tried to convince her and to avoid the person, the girl came to stay in a temporary house near the railway tracks in Diphu.
But Terang managed to find her and on February 4, he allegedly tortured the girl and also burned her.
On the night of the incident, Terang himself brought the victim to the Diphu Civil Hospital. The victimโs mother said that as Terang frequently used to make unwanted visits in her village, his wife visited her to tell that Terang is married to her.
The victimโs mother also said that for sometimes, Terang visited the hospital, but later his wife used to come to enquire about the health of the victim. Now, both Terang and his wife have stopped visiting the hospital.
Students and social organisationsโ leaders have visited the hospital to see the victim and also meet the victimโs mother.
KSA president Simeon Rongphar and Karbi Farmersโ Association president Samsing Hanse and general secretary Tinku Engti and Karbi Youth Development Organisation president Kiron Tokbi have demanded arrest of Terang.
The organisations have also urged the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) authority to provide free medical treatment to the victim.
