Income Tax officials from Dimapur in Nagaland carried out raids in the business establishments of well-known businessmen at Diphu Market in Karbi Anglong on Tuesday.
The raid, carried out by the IT sleuths at Hemant Enterprise, owned by businessman Swarmal Swami, continued for nearly five hours from about 12 pm to 5 pm.

The IT officials also raided the residence of Suresh Sarma, a businessman at Dharamnala here and the FCI godown at Birla.
Onlookers and journalists gathered at the sites of the raids but no details could be gleaned. Suresh Sarma reportedly has shifted his businesses to Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD).
Social organisations in Karbi Anglong at various times have been demanding action against some businessmen based in Diphu for allegedly selling items of Public Distribution System (PDS) having nexus with concerned officials.

However, officials of Food and Civil Supplies Department have denied of any such nexus with the traders in Karbi Anglong. However, the allegations keep coming with demand for inquiry but there had been no official action in this regard.
