Team of official also visited erosion affected Sigar, Raling, Motum, Borguli, New Borguli, Seram, Kongkul and Namsing villages under Mebo Sub-Division

Following the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s directive, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak along with the officials on Saturday visited flood ravaged Mebo sub-division in the district and assessed the actual loss and damage in the rural areas.

The DC and team of official also visited erosion affected Sigar, Raling, Motum, Borguli, New Borguli, Seram, Kongkul and Namsing villages under Mebo Sub-Division and witnessed the ground realities.

They also met the affected families and heard about their sufferings.

Gaon Burahs at Sigar and Raling village, who were accompanying the DC during the visit, explained him about changing of Siang river course on its left bank, which is flowing with high tides of unusual waves last several months.

The Gaon burahs also requested the DC to disseminate the ground report to the authority and place a demand to take prompt anti-erosion measure besides proper rehabilitation of the affected families.

The DC and officials also inspected the ongoing construction embankments at Kongkul between Borguli and Seram villages under Mebo circle and taken stock its quality and progress.

Report from Mebo revealed that local villagers during the visit apprised the officials about their suffering.

They informed the officials that around one hundred domesticated cattle including cows and bulls died in the area inflicted by post flood woes.

Moreover, the river has gripped several acres of their fertile agricultural lands thereby brought a bleak future to their survival.

The local villagers also recalled that Siang river eroded a large human habitation and rendered 15 families of Serum village homeless.

The team comprised Water Resource department Executive Engineer Tamo Jamoh and Assistant Engineer (Mebo) Alat Megu, District Disaster Management Officer, Gendem Tsomu, Divisional Forest Officer (Wildlife), Tasang Taga, Namsing Circle Officer K. Apum and others.

Earlier on September 5 this year, the State’s Disaster Management Secretary Bidol Tayeng and Director Kanto Danggen accompanied by local MLA Lombo Tayeng, NDRF officers and water resource engineers visited the flood-affected villages of Mebo in East Siang district.
