NTPC Bongaigaon on Friday distributed bicycles to girl students of the rural areas of the district as part of the Republic Day celebration.
The bicycles were distributed under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) in association with Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club Bongaigaon to girl students from the villages of Kathalguri, Gaurangtary, Dholmara, Silkatarai,Siljani and Saharpur in the district.
Group General Manager, NTPC Bongaigaon Dipankar Bose, General Manager (Operations) Rakesh Kumar, president of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club Keya Bose, vice-president Dr Anjali Kumar and senior committee members of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club were present on the occasion and gave away the cycles to the students. Altogether 36 girl students of high school level received the bicycles.
Speaking on the occasion Group General Manager, NTPC Bongaigaon Dipankar Bose while wishing everyone on the happy occasion of Republic Day, said the bicycles will encourage the female students to attend classes regularly in school and this small step will encourage the growth of education of the girls in the society.
Keya Bose also said that education is a must for all girls and they can take part in the nation building process. She also said NTPC has always been committed towards the welfare of its community and has a strong CSR policy in this regard.
Earlier, Bose unfurled the tricolour. A colourful programme comprising of performance by the children of Bal Bhawan and CISF was organized on the occasion. The NTPC Unit of Bongaigaon also had tableau presentation by Bal Bhawan, HR-CSR, Mechanical Maintenance and O&M group.
