Army under Dao Division successfully nabbed one NSCN (IM) rebel from Sepon in Dibrugarh district on Friday night. The operation has delivered a huge blow to NSCN (IM) activities in Upper Assam.
Based on specific intelligence input regarding the movement of NSCN (IM) cadre in general area Sepon, an operation was launched by 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles on Friday night.
During this operation one NSCN (IM) cadre identified as self styled Lt Wapang Imchen (27) was apprehended with .32 mm pistol, one magazine, two live rounds and one mobile phone on July 20.
He was actively involved in several extortion and anti-national activities on behalf of proscribed outfit.
“The apprehended NSCN (IM) cadre was handed over to Moran police station and an FIR was lodged under Sec 25(1-6) Arms Act, 1959 and Sec 10/13 UA (P) Act, 1967,” Army sources told Northeast Now.
Recently 9th battalion the Rajputana Rifles has conducted several successful operations to mitigate the impact of NSCN (IM) and ULFA (I) in upper Assam. This operation is also a major part of the ongoing crack down by security forces against the terrorist outfit active in Upper Assam.
