Opposition Congress in Assam has demanded an inquiry into the improper verification of documents in 13 districts of Assam. A delegation of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday met NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.
Congress has pointed out that there was deliberate negligence on the party of the NRC authority in verifying the documents of 208 seva kendras in 13 districts of the state. These districts include Darrang, Marigaon, Nagaon, Goalpara, Dhubri, Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Mancachar, Bongaigaon and part of Nalbari.
The party has alleged that these areas are inhabited by religious and linguistic minority people and utmost care was not taken while verifying the documents there. “In fact in those centres only few applications were verified as a result in those areas the names of only 10 per cent population have appeared in the first part of the draft,” the memorandum said.
The party has urged the state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela to take up corrective measures in this regard.
“It is a matter of serious concern that in these 13 districts, the names of 90 per cent people are left out,’ the memorandum stated.
Congress has also assured to extend all sorts of cooperation for preparation of an error-free NRC. But requested the NRC authority to take up full proof verification as per the NRC rules and guidelines of remaining 1.39 crore applicants.
Meanwhile state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela while talking to Northeast Now said that very soon the NRC authority would make arrangement for online correction of names wrongly appeared in the draft NRC.
