Assam Public Works (APW) president Abhijit Sarma on Thursday said that APW would submit the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the NRC on August 24 at the Supreme Court.
Sarma, while expressing doubt over inclusion of illegal migrants name in the NRC final draft, said that the APW would request the Supreme Court for re-verification of the whole NRC process.

Addressing a programme at Guwahati, Sarma said, “We cannot let Pradip Bhuyan and Bonti Bhuyan along with APW’s sacrifices go in vain.”
Talking to media persons, Sarma said, “We have observed many faults in the final draft of NRC. The Supreme Court has asked us to submit the SOP along with other five organisations.”
Sarma refused to disclose about the suggestions that included in the SOP.

“People will get to know about the suggestions on August 28,” Sarma said.
Talking about inclusion of 39 illegal Bangladeshi families name in the NRC draft, Sarma said, “Though the Supreme Court has been monitoring the whole process, the apex court is probably unaware of such incident. Probably the state co-ordinator of NRC Prateek Hajela did not inform the apex court. We will inform the Supreme Court about the matter.”
Sarma further questioned, “How could an illegal Bangladeshi be engaged in NRC update work if the Supreme Court has been monitoring the whole process?”
Sarma also said that the APW would request the apex court to curb all rights of the identified illegal migrants first. “Thereafter, we will request the Supreme Court to grant them work permit as there might be deportation problem,” he said.
