The statue of Communist icon Vladimir Lenin was toppled at Belona in Tripura after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victory in the recently-held Tripura Assembly polls defeating the Left Front which ruled for 25 years, then the statue of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, a Hindu nationalist and founder of right wing nationalist Bharatiya Jana Sangh, a predecessor to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1951 was vandalized at Kolkata in West Bengal and an statue of Dravidian icon and social reformer EVR Ramasamy, popularly known as Periyar was vandalized at Vellore in Tamil Nadu.

As the incidents caused tensions across country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly disapproved of such incidents.
“Persons indulging in such acts must be sternly dealt with and booked under relevant provisions of the law,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
