Northeast United FC has appointed former India international footballer Khalid Jamil as the team’s full-time head coach.
Khalid Jamil is the first Indian to be appointed as the head coach of an Indian Super League (ISL) team.

The announcement was made by the NEUFC just ahead of the 2021-22 ISL season.
The 44-year-old former India midfielder had guided the Highlanders to the semi-finals after taking over in an interim capacity from Gerard Nus last season.
Jamil had earlier coached teams like the Mohan Bagan and East Bengal.

Khalid Jamil had also guided the Aizawl FC to a stunning I-League triumph in 2017.
Jamil joined Northeast United FC as an assistant coach ahead of the 2019-20 season.
The Highlanders kick off their next ISL campaign on November 20 against 2018-19 champions Bengaluru FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, Goa.
