The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the last date for online verification of voter IDs to November 18, 2019.
The ECI had stated in a notification that it has observed that the progress of the Electors Verification Programme (EVP) is very slow and the verification of a large number of voters is yet to be completed.
It also stated that a large number of forms have been received for purpose of inclusion, deletion and correction that must be handled before draft publication.
Moreover, the Chief Electoral Officers have also requested for more time for completing the large amount of work, the notification added.
The ECI had earlier extended the last date for online verification of voter IDs to October 15, 2019.
However, in order to complete the work of the numerous voters, the ECI has now extended the last date for online verification of voter IDs to November 18 next.
The EVP was launched by ECI on September 1 with an aim to update electoral rolls through crowdsourcing.
Under the programme, a voter from each family gets a username and password, allowing him/her to upload all documents related to electoral registration and tag similar details about his/her family members.
