The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has participated in the ‘Fit India Freedom Run’ initiative, supported by the Indian Railways.
The initiative has been introduced by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

This initiative, which started on August 15, will continue till October 2, 2020.
“The initiative is being taken up under the aegis of the Fit Indian Movement. NFR is also fully participating in the nationwide initiative,” Subhanan Chanda, chief public relations officer, NFR said in a statement.
‘Fit India Freedom Run’, launched on August 14 by Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju, has been conceived keeping in view the indispensable need to keep ourselves fit while maintaining social distancing. In this run, one can run/walk along a route of his/her choice, at a time that suits him/her.

One can even take breaks during such run/walk. Basically, one runs his/her own race and times his/her own pace.
“The officers and staff of NF Railway, both at HQs and the divisions are submitting reports of daily run/walk. A nodal officer has been nominated for each department,” the NFR chief PRO informed.
The N.F. Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) is actively promoting the initiative through mobile PA announcements in the Railway areas.
Daily running programme is being organized by the Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association, in which groups of NF Railway sportspersons are participating to spread awareness on the Fit India Freedom Run initiative, by running/walking with banners & posters, the CPRO informed.
NFR General Manager Sanjive Roy is actively encouraging the initiatives, he said.
There has been enhanced participation in the Fit India Freedom Run, by the railwaymen and their families all over N.F. Railway.
From the latest data available, N.F. Railway is in the top three positions among all Zonal Railways in terms of participants and cumulative kms covered.
Indian Railways has a great legacy of sports promotion in India.
It is the biggest promoter of sports in India by way of providing employment to 300-400 sportspersons every year and giving them all facility and a conducive atmosphere for them to excel in sports to bring laurel to the country.
Indian Railways has around 10,000 sportspersons and 300 coaches in 29 game disciplines on its roll.
Six out of a total 32 National Sports Awards in 2019-20 were conferred on Indian railways sportspersons, the NFR CPRO claimed.
