Guwahati: As part of the central government’s Digital India initiative, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) is further promoting cashless transactions.
The Indian Railways have made efforts to enhance digital transactions as per policy of the Union government by implementing cashless counters at few nominated passenger reservation systems with digital payment modes.

With every passing day, the cashless transactions are becoming popular among the rail passengers. Under the jurisdiction of the NF Railway, from Rs 1.8 lakh (0.87 per cent of total across the counter transactions) on January 30, 2024, it has now come to Rs 3.78 lakh (2.67 per cent) on February 3 this year, which shows steady improvement to facilitate payment through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Point-Of-Sale (POS).
Passengers are being made aware of cashless transactions in various reservation counters over the NF Railway and are adapting the initiative taken by the Central government by booking their tickets through online modes.
The contribution of cashless transactions from January 31 to February 2, 2024 in passenger reservation system located over the NF Railway in five divisions at a few railway stations are New Tinsukia-53.01 per cent, Dibrugarh Town-15.74 per cent, Guwahati-73.05 per cent, Kamakhya-17.04 per cent, Rangiya-33.93 per cent, New Bongaigaon-05 per cent and Dimapur-07.77 per cent.
