Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah on Sunday reiterated that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 would be adopted at any cost to gi e refuse and accord citizenship to Hindu minorities facing persecution in neighbouring countires.

Shah said this on the concluding day of the BJP national executive meeting in New Delhi on Sunday.

Shah was of the view that the saffron party was always in support of making amends in the citizenship bill to accommodate migrants (particularly Hindu) from countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Shah also said that his party is committed to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

The BJP national president was particularly critical of several opposition parties and leaders posing opposition to the NRC with obvious reference to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Interestingly, some of the members of the West Bengal unit of the BJP, during the discussions, also demanded an NRC like exercise in their State to detect and deport illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

The national executive is being attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP state unit president Ranjit Dass, Cabinet ministers Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Himanta Biswa Sarma, among others.
