The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge-sheet against 7 ULFA operatives in connection with the killing of Assam Police sub inspector Bhaskar Kalita.

Bhaskar Kalita, the officer-in-charge of Bordumsa police station was killed on May 4, 2018 during a gun battle with a group of ULFA (I) cadres along the Assam-Arunachal border.

The charge-sheet has been filed against Bijit Gogoi, Kanto Bora, Santosh Gogoi, Jushinta Moran, Bubul Moran, Dipankar Borah and Mamun Dihingia.

Bhaskar Kalita had received specific input on presence of a group of ULFA cadres in a house at Kujupathar village.

A joint operation was launched by the Police and Para-military forces. During the process of cordoning of the premises, ULFA cadres hiding inside the house had opened indiscriminate fire at the raiding team, killing Bhaskar Kalita.

Taking advantage of poor light conditions, ULFA militants managed to escape into the nearby jungle.

While escaping, the ULFA cadres had snatched one AK-47 rifle from the deceased police officer, the NIA said in its charge-sheet.

NIA said investigation has established that this was carried on the instructions of ULFA leader Arunodoi Dahoti.

The armed ULFA cadres had come from a camp in Myanmar and were planning on carrying out attacks and also raising funds, the NIA said adding that further investigations are on.

The brave Assam Police officer, who died fighting ULFA (I) had also won the Independence Day Police Medal for gallantry posthumously.
