Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is constructing Divyang (differently-abled people) friendly toilets across 351 stations all over the zone.
It is a part of the social initiative taken by Indian Railways to construct Divyang friendly toilets under the instruction of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

This initiative aims to ease the difficulties being faced by differently abled persons in accessing public toilet facilities.
Maligaon-headquartered NFR has 543 stations in total, out of these 125 stations are halt stations, where no mail or express trains stop and none of these stations have permanent working staff.
Out of the remaining 418 stations, 67 already have Divyang friendly toilets.

Out of the 351 stations which are to have Divyang friendly toilets, 141 stations have already got these toilets in the current financial year.
However, in the remaining 210 stations, construction work for is going on and is expected to be completed by December 31, this year.
The minimum width of entry and exit doors of these toilets are 900 mm so that persons using wheelchairs or crutches can easily use these doors.
The other includes entry/exit ramp with proper slope, non-slippery ramp, pathway and floor, hand rail with vertical grab bar provided for proper grip.
Also, signage with bigger letter size is provided and hand basin at low height of 680 mm is provided for the ease of the differently abled persons.
Apart from constructing Divyang friendly toilets, additional facilities like online booking of wheelchairs and Braille enabled new coaches are being provided by Indian Railways.
