Justice T Nandakumar Singh (Retd) has been sworn-in as the first Chairperson of the Manipur Lokayukta along with Justice Basu Deo Agarwal (Retd) and IAS officer Ameising Luikham (Retd) as Judicial Member and Non Judicial Member respectively during a solemn swearing in function in Imphal on Wednesday.

Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Chairperson and members at a swearing-in-ceremony held at the Darbar hall of Raj Bhavan Imphal.

Ministers in the BJP led coalition government in Manipur namely Thongam Biswajit Singh, Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar Singh, Karam Shyam, Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh, V Hangkhanlian and MLA Khasim Vashum, chief secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, director general of police L M Khaute and other senior officials of civil and police of the State Government attended swearing-in ceremony.

Speaking to reporters, after the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Dr Heptulla said that they’ll perform their duties in the interest of the general public. Responding to a question by reporters, she also admitted that the interests should be justice to the people.

On the other hand, the newly appointed Chairperson Justice Nandakumar (Retd) said that they will not entertain all form of complaints but will do preliminary inquiry and take up complaints adding that they will be assisting the government for maintaining transparency.

Lokayukta is a quasi judiciary authority for transparent administration of the State Government. Lokayukta which is a quasi judiciary authority for transparent administration, is for the people and it will work for the interest of the people, he added.
