Neiphiu Rio meets DoNER minister; presses for airport, medical college

The newly elected Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, who is camping with his Cabinet colleagues and other party leaders called on Union Minister of State (Independent charge) of the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh in New Delhi on Saturday and discussed a wide range of issues related to development of the state of Nagaland.

Among the top issues discussed during the meeting was setting up the Ciethu Airport near Kohima.

Rio also took up with the DoNER minister the demand for setting up of a government medical college in Nagaland.

Rio also requested the Union Minister in charge of the Ministry foe development of the North-east to issue directions for repatriation of some of the IAS officers of Nagaland cadre back to their state cadre.

Rio and Singh also discussed at length the law and order as well as socio-political scenario of the State, post the Assembly elections.

Later in his new official Twitter handle, Rio wrote:

‘Had a fruitful meeting with the new Chief Minister of #Nagaland, Sh @Neiphiu_Rio, currently on a visit to the union capital.’

Rio also met Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Niti Aayog vice chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar, among others others.

Earlier on Thursday, Rio also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his delegation of state leaders.

Neiphiu Rio along with his council of ministers and others also called on President, Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday apart from meeting the Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju.

The delegation led by Rio camping in New Delhi also held consultative meetings with constitutional experts and legal luminaries over the issue of appointment of elected members as advisors.

Rio also held a closed door one-to-one meeting with state advocate general Ram Gopal on Thursday evening over the issue of appointment of advisors in the State.
