The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has unanimously elected Neiphiu Rio as the NDPP Legislature Party leader.
The NDPP-BJP chief ministerial candidate was elected at the first meeting of the NDPP Legislature Party, comprising 18 legislators, at a hotel in Kohima on Monday, NDPP Media and Communication Committee informed in a release on Tuesday.
Adopting a 9-point resolution, the meeting appealed to all sections of the people to leave the bitter experiences of the elections behind and come together under a spirit of unity and oneness in the greater interest of the citizens of Nagaland so that all sections can collectively work towards achieving common endeavors of economic growth, all round development and lasting peace.
The NDPP Legislature Party said resolution of the Indo-Naga political problem would be at the top of the party’s agenda.
The party endorsed the stand of the party to bring positive change, provide good governance, transparent administration and redraw a new roadmap of progressive development for a resurgent Nagaland. “The Party will promote meritocracy, ensure justice, rule of law and remove VIP culture,” the release asserted.
The party reiterated its commitment to tirelessly work for the welfare of the people and leave no stone unturned in achieving the commitments made in its manifesto.
Expressing its sincere appreciation to the electorate of Nagaland for giving its mandate in favour of the NDPP-BJP alliance under the leadership of the Chief Ministerial candidate Rio, the NDPP appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support and positive participation in the election campaign. It also expressed appreciation to the BJP for extending all possible cooperation to NDPP and for ensuring a successful and smooth campaign within the alliance partners.
The party further expressed its sincere gratitude to all the rank and file of the NDPP for the tireless efforts during the election process and for contributing towards the success of the alliance candidates.
It congratulated the Election Commission of India besides the administration, police and law enforcing agencies for successful conduct of the general elections while appreciating the positive role of the church, tribal Hohos, civil societies, mass-based organisations, NGOs and the citizens of the state for strengthening the foundations of democracy.
