On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, a walkathon was organized by the Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department at Latasil Playground in Guwahati on Sunday .

Flagging off the event, Assam Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said, ‘India is a rich nation with a pool of young human resource population and the energy and enthusiasm of the youth must be channelized by skilling them in a proper way.’

The Minister emphasized that in line with the Prime Minister vision of turning India into the skill capital of the world, Assam Government has created the Skill Department which also aims to skill one lakh youth of the State in a year.

The Department will also conduct sector-wise workshops at Baksa, Darrang, Udalguri, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Barperta and Dhubri districts as part of the week long initiative on skills.

Jatin Bora, Chairman, Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Limited; Hiren Nath, Commissioner of Police; Ashutosh Agnihotri, Commissioner and Secretary (Skill); AP Tiwari, MD, Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM); Amanjeet Kaur, DCP, Traffic also participated in the walkathon.
