Congress leader and former union minister of state Shashi Tharoor on Friday accused the NDA-led government of promoting narrow-minded idea in the country and urged voters to vote against the BJP.
Tharoor was talking to reporters here before campaigning for Congress candidates in few area of Shillong.
Calling the NDA government a “two face” government Tharoor said the BJP is embracing all in Meghalaya but in Delhi they denied visa to a pastor who wanted to attend a programme to celebrate 150 years of Christianity in Garo Hills recently.

“This is a government which has no tangible achievements. What it has been trying to do is to change the very nature of what India is all about. For 70 years, we have been trying to build India, which even the first NDA government did not dare to tamper with the idea of India as a country of all people,” Tharoor claimed.
He also said the BJP in Meghalaya is talking about being kind to the Christians in BJP-ruled states but there are numerous instances of horrendous attacks on Christians by the BJP supporters.
He also attacked the BJP’s ally – National People’s Party and other regional parties in Meghalaya alleging that they tried telling the people of Meghalaya that they are independent and contesting by themselves and everywhere else, but they are actually the allies of BJP. They are attaching themselves as a tail that is whacking along whenever the dog barks, he added.
The Congress MP however lauded the ruling Congress government under the leadership of chief minister Mukul Sangma for its “astonishing improvement” in education and health sector.
He also claimed Meghalaya has surpassed Kerala as far as female literacy rate is concerned while attributing the achievement to the commitment of the government to fulfill the spirit of the right to education act brought during the UPA government.
