The Nationalist Congress Party on Friday decided to put up Krenilla R Marak, wife of Jonathone N Sangma who was shot dead by unknown miscreants last Sunday.
Jonathone was the party candidate for Williamnagar Assembly constituency in East Garo Hills of Meghalaya.
NCP President Saleng Sangma said, “This is a gesture of good will and respect towards the family of Jonathone Sangma and his contribution towards the party. So we rightfully decided to nominate her as the party candidate. We lost Jonathone at a very crucial point of time. I have been in touch with Krenilla Marak and she has given assent to our proposal.”
A delegation of Nationalist Congress Party Meghalaya led by SP Thapa, General Secretary, Torang R Marak, President of Nationalist Youth Congress Party (the youth wing of NCP) on Friday visited late Jonathone Sangma’s family members and also addressed the gathering.
SP Thapa, general secretary of NCP has urged the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army, the prime suspect behind the killing of Jonathone Sangma to issue a statement as to whether they have committed the crime or not.
