The National People’s Party (NPP) on Friday announced its candidates for the upcoming 17th Lok Sabha polls.

Former Union minister Agatha K Sangma will contest from Tura Lok Sabha constituency and Thangminlien Kipgen from Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency.

The names of the two candidates were approved by the Central Election Committee of the NPP.

The NPP which is leading the coalition Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government in Meghalaya also claimed of winning the Tura seat with a very big margin.

The NPP has decided to field candidates from various Lok Sabha constituencies in the North East. The NPP has also opted to support the candidate of the United Democratic Party (UDP) from Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

The opposition Congress has decided to field former chief minister Mukul Sangma as its candidate from Tura and current Lok Sabha MP Vincent H Pala from Shillong.
