The Tripura CPI (M) on Thursday came down heavily on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and termed the assurance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in two election rallies in Tripura as only poll ‘Jhumlas’ (gimmicks).

Addressing the media at CPI-M headquarters at Melarmarth area of Agartala on Thursday evening, state secretary of the Left party, Bijan Dhar questioned the hidden agenda of BJP behind sharing the dais with divisive forces, who are demanding separate state and ‘responsible for widespread violence’ across the State.

“We want to ask the Prime Minister that you assured lots of things before 2014 general elections of the country, but till date what we have achieved and what the poor people have received”, said Dhar.

He also said that assurance of implementing of the seventh Pay Commission is also a gimmick of the BJP.

Dhar was also critical of the state BJP unit whose party workers allegedly attacked the CPI-M offices at Shantibazar area of South Tripura district, terming the act as ‘provocative steps to disturb the law and order’ of the state before the ensuing Assembly polls.

Dhar further said that on way to Sonamura rally of Narendra Modi, BJP workers ransacked the party offices of CPI-M, CITU and Motor Shmramik Union at Shantibazar.

The CPI-M also demanded immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for the hooliganism. Goons of BJP also attacked the nearby people including some girl students, Dhar had alleged.

He also criticized the release of joint statement by BJP and Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and termed it as ‘insult to the people of the State’.

Dhar also questioned BJP’s stoic silence on the separate state demand by IPFT while entering into a pre-poll alliance.

The CPI-M leader demanded clarification from both the BJP and IPFT leaderships on the matter.
