Union minister Rijiju enjoys cooking at Hornbill festival

Union minister Kiren Rijiju experienced cooking in Nagaland while attending the ongoing Hornbill Festival at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama near Kohima.

Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Rijiju while re-tweeting a video on his Twitter handle on Sunday, where he is seen cooking inside a Morung put up at Kisama, tweeted: “It was a genuine ethnic Naga cuisine!”

Sharing an image of Rijiju cooking at the festival, adviser to the Nagaland CM and secretary-general of NDPP, Abu Metha tweeted: Union Minister @KirenRijiju cooks ethnic #NagaFood at the #HornbillFestival of #Nagaland. One of the dozens of reasons why a visit to Nagaland is a must is the yummylicious food.”

While participating in the festival, union minister Rijiju also fired a muzzle-loading gun.

Re-tweeting a video where he is seen firing a muzzle-loading gun, Rijiju said: “It’s been a tradition for Nagas to fire muzzle-loading guns during festivals! The #Konyaks and many Naga communities have mastered the art of gun making.”

He was all praise for the “Naga spirit and hospitality”.

Rijiju tweeted: “The HORNBILL FESTIVAL depicting the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas is breaking all records of tourist footfall!!”

“The evenings at all the Naga Morungs are simply delightful,” he tweeted.

The union minister thanked Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio and his team for hosting in “Naga style of hospitality”.

“It was a memorable evening!” he said.

Addressing a cultural programme at Kisama, union minister Rijiju said Nagaland has the potential to become one of the hubs for adventure activities and his ministry wants to promote adventure activities in the state to ensure that ‘youth are engaged in gainful employment.’
