TR Zeliang to be NPF chief ministerial candidate in Nagaland

The NPF Legislature Party has resolved to contest the 2018 Nagaland Assembly elections with TR Zeliang as the chief ministerial candidate and under the leadership of NPF president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, if at all election is conducted.

Adopting a five-point resolution at the NPF Legislature Party meeting at the state banquet hall, Kohima, on Monday, the NPF Legislature Party, in keeping with the aspiration of the Naga people for an early resolution to the protracted Naga political issue, expressed its deep sense of appreciation to the party’s leadership for the steps taken in bringing about understanding and reconciliation in the NPF Party. It said the reconciliation move was initiated to facilitate a united stand in supporting the ongoing dialogue between the NSC-IM and the six Naga national political groups with the Government of India for bringing about an inclusive, acceptable and an honourable solution to the Naga political issue.

The party appreciated the decision taken for revocation of all suspension and expulsion orders against some of its members and withdrawal of all pending cases from the court of law, the Election Commission of India and the office of Nagaland Speaker.

It also expressed its deep obligation to remain firmly united in the reconciliation process and the need to continue fostering congenial atmosphere in the State for facilitating an early settlement to the Naga political issue.

Further, the NPF Legislature Party reaffirmed confidence and trust in the leadership of Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu and TR Zeliang while resolving to stand solidly behind the two leaders.

The five resolutions were unanimously adopted with all the members raising their hand in support.

Meanwhile, the DAN Legislature Party at a separate meeting held at state banquet hall, Kohima on Monday expressed deep appreciation for the rapprochement and reconciliation affected within the NPF Party.

It also reaffirmed and endorsed the five-point resolution adopted by the NPF Legislature Party at its meeting today.

The DAN Legislature Party further called for an inclusive, acceptable and honourable early solution to the Naga political issue before State Assembly election due early next year in view of the ongoing political dialogue between the NSCN-I) and the six Naga political groups with the Government of India.

It also urged all DAN Party members to c-operate and work in unison for successful return in the 2018 State Assembly elections under the Leadership of Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, chairman, Democratic Alliance of Nagaland and TR Zeliang as the chief ministerial candidate if at all election is conducted.
