Former Nagaland minister and four-time MLA late K Yamakam was accorded a state funeral at his private residence, Purana Bazaar in Dimapur on Saturday.
Late Yamakam, father of advisor, SCERT, IPR and Village Guards, Toshi Wongtung, had passed away at a private hospital on Friday after a brief illness.
Attending the funeral service, veteran politician and former Governor Dr S C Jamir described late Yamakam as a man of strong conviction and trustworthy friend and colleague, who tirelessly worked for the uplift of Tuensang area.
Earlier, State Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio paid his tribute at the airport.
In his message, Rio described late leader as a simple and down to earth leader, a man of integrity and commitment, known for relentlessly raising the voice of the people he represented.
On his official Twitter handle, Rio also wrote:
‘Paid my last respects to my former colleague in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Late K Yamakam, former minister and four-time MLA, at Dimapur airport. He will always be remembered as a people’s leader and a fatherly figure. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.’
