Dimapur: The Rising Peopleโ€™s Party (RPP) on Saturday urged the Nagaland government to fulfill its commitment to regularise the services of the All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers Group (ANATG) 2015 Batch without delay.

Asking to treat the issue seriously, the RPP, in a release, also urged the state government to stop indulging in further delay tactics.

Quoting the ANATG-2015 Batch, the party said after sustained protests in 2018 and 2022, the state government set up a high-powered committee (HPC), which clearly stipulated that the government would regularise the services of the group within a stipulated time.

Stating that it will not go into the merits and demerits of the issue, the RPP alleged that the state government has backtracked on its commitment to regularise the ad hoc teachers.

โ€œThe ANATG-2015 is completely justified in undertaking the present stir against the betrayal of the NPF-BJP coalition government,โ€ the party stated.

The ANATG 2015 Batch began its protest in the form of a sit-in at NSF Solidarity Park in Kohima on February 4 demanding regularisation of services of 1,166 ad hoc teachers of the group and also staged a demonstration in the state capital on Friday amid growing frustration over what they describe as years of official inaction.

The RPP stressed that an important issue involving the future and livelihoods of thousands of teachers and students cannot be allowed to drag on for years.

According to it, the insensitivity and misplaced priorities of this government are utterly deplorable.

The party said the poor teachers are being made to suffer for decades because of the insensitivity of the government.

โ€œThis government talks about good governance, but it should realise that good governance begins only when it starts treating its employees with dignity and respect,โ€ it added.

The RPP also cautioned the state government not to escalate the issue further.

It added that in democratic protests, unions and entities have the right to gather, raise slogans and submit memorandums and that these activities should not be construed as anti-government nor should the authorities take umbrage.
