Continuing the resignation spree, three more Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLAs – Imtikumzuk, Merentoshi R Jamir and Tovihoto Ayemi – have resigned from the membership of Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Saturday.

Sources said Speaker Dr Imtiwapang Aier has accepted their resignations and declared the seats held by them as vacant with immediate effect.

So far, 18 MLAs, 16 from NPF and two Independents, resigned from the membership of the Assembly, reducing the strength of the 60-member House to 41. One seat fell vacant after the death of a member in December last year.

Meanwhile, no nominations were filed on day 4 of filing of nominations for the upcoming Assembly elections on Saturday. The last date of filing of nominations has been fixed on February 7.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Crime), Nagaland, has informed all intending candidates for the forthcoming election who have not been provided with bodyguards to contact the CP or SP concerned of the district from where they will be contesting in order to provide them with bodyguards.

In another development, JD (U) on Saturday pulled out of 15-year-old alliance with ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) with immediate effect, according to a press statement from JD (U).
