Repoll underway at a polling station in 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly constituency on Saturday.

Repoll in polling station number 11 at Singrep village recorded 74.7 percent polling while it was 69.5 percent at polling station number 8 at Kipongya Ward ‘A’ in Kiphire town on Saturday.

Repolls were ordered by the Election Commission of India at the two polling stations under 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly constituency in Kiphire district which went to byelection on November 3.

Repoll were conducted peacefully in both the polling stations amid tight security and without any untoward incident, an official release said.

It said adequate security was provided to ensure that all the voters are able to cast their votes without any fear.

The Election Commission ordered repoll in both the polling stations on the basis of reports submitted and after taking all material circumstances into account, Nagaland chief electoral officer Abhijit Sinha said on November 5.

Besides Pungro-Kiphire Assembly constituency, 14 Southern Angami seat in Kohima district also went bypoll on November 3.

The bypolls in both the constituencies recorded over 88 percent polling. Counting of votes in both the constituencies will be taken up on November 10.

The bypolls were necessitated after the deaths of Southern Angami-I constituency legislator of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and former Nagaland Assembly Speaker Vikho-o Yhoshü on December 30 and Pungro-Kiphire constituency MLA of the Opposition Naga People’s Front T. Torechu on December 16 last year.
