The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has served show-cause notices to Lok Sabha MP Lorho Pfoze and Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye for voting in favour of CAB.
The notices were served on Thursday by NPF’s Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) after a meeting held in party headquarters earlier on the day.
“DAC decided to serve show-cause notices to the two MPs after they voted in favour of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in the Parliament,” said an NPF member.
“You were issued ‘the ticket’ of the NPF and subsequently got elected as Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from outer Manipur Parliamentary seat,” the show-cause notice to Pfoze stated.
“The core committee in its January 30 meeting and the Central Executive Council (CEC) on January 31 passed a resolution to oppose CAB,” the notice added.
“The same resolutions were reiterated in the party’s consultative meeting on March 30 at the NPF headquarters in Kohima,” the notice further stated.
“You are also currently a CEC member of the NPF and hence it is expected of you to act/vote in consonance with the standing resolutions of the party,” the notice further added.
“Defying party’s resolutions, you voted in favour of CAB on December 12, 2019, in the lower house of the Indian Parliament. Therefore, you are directed to show cause as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against you,” the notice added.
“You are further directed to submit your reply within 7 from the date of issue of this notice, that is on or before December 26, 2019,” it stated.
