Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday said that non-Nagas cannot dictate terms and shape the future and destiny of the Naga people.

Rio also made an appeal to all neighbouring states to support the cause of the Nagas and respect the rights of the Naga people so that their rights would also be respected.

He was speaking at a programme of the Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) marketing complex at Khermahal near Tragopan Hotel n Dimapur on Saturday.

This was an obvious reaction to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh‘s recent statement on the Naga political issue,.

Rio further said that anyone can speak for themselves, but they cannot speak for the Nagas.

Rio felt that Tenyimias, who were spread out in Manipur and Assam, should carry the message everywhere for unity and for the integration, propagating to let other understand Naga issue.

Pointing out that Naga unity was a must, Rio said that the dreams of the Naga people can be realized only when ‘we are united’.

“But if we are divided, our wishes will remain as dreams and our rights will always be suppressed,” the Nagaland Chief Minister further said.

The Chief Minister also said Dimapur was not only a miniature Nagaland but a miniature India as people from across the country come and stay here.

He further said that the most important things for Dimapur citizens would be unity, co-existence and harmony.

The chief minister also urged the people to not find fault in one another but should come together and fight for their rights.
