A new radio app is coming up to link and live stream all radio stations in the north eastern states to facilitate the strengthening of the face of the stations in the region.

The Naga engineers under All India Radio (AIR) Kohima are working on the new app.

According to AIR deputy director general (E) KV Ramachandran, once the software is confirmed it would be used in all the stations for live-streaming. The app is on a test transmission at the Kohima station of All India Radio (AIR) currently, an AIR press release stated.

Speaking at the two-day meeting of All India Radio Stations Zonal Programme Coordinating Committee (ZPCC) of the North Eastern Region in Mokokchung, Ramachandran said the AIR members should optimally utilize the available facilities for desired infrastructural and technical improvements of the radio stations.

The meeting, which concluded on Friday, was organised by AIR and Doordarshan Kendra, North East Zone Guwahati, and hosted by AIR Mokokchung. Senior officials from Zonal additional director general offices of north eastern states and top programme officials from 26 radio stations, including Sikkim stations, attended the maiden Zonal Programme Coordinating Committee meeting.

AIR North Eastern Region adviser DN Basumatari said the meeting was organized to discuss progress and better linking of all radio stations besides other relevant issues. He called for austerity measures to arrest the fiscal prudence of the stations and urged the radio stations to put in their best efforts to plan balanced programmes that earn revenue while delivering the best programmes to listeners.

The meeting discussed issues related to conducting programmes, studio refurbishing, studio and transmitter linking problems, FM transmitter requirements for wider coverage of north east station programmes, technical hurdles regarding broadcast of programmes, changing scenario in the broadcasting sector, transfer policy of staff, administrative matters etc.
