KOHIMA: Three municipalities and 36 town councils in the Northeast state of Nagaland have joined forces to establish the Nagaland Urban Council Federation (NUCF), aimed at advancing the welfare of municipal and town councils.
During a consultative meeting held on March 23, representatives from the AKMWP (Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayats), AWUMT (All Ward Union Mokokchung Town), and DUCCF (Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation), along with the 36 Town Councils of Nagaland, passed a resolution to this effect.

The meeting, convened at Hotel Japfu in Kohima, also saw unanimous agreement on appointing new office bearers from the three municipalities and town councils to lead the NUCF.
Additionally, executive members from each district will be included in the federation’s leadership structure.

The elected office bearers for the NUCF are as follows: president – Thejao Sekhose (president of AKMWP), vice-president – Limanungsang (president of AWUMT), and general secretary – Zasivikho Zakiesato (president of DUCCF).
These officials are tasked with expeditiously drafting the federation’s constitution and bye-laws, which will be presented for approval at the next meeting, as per a press release.
The headquarters of the NUCF will be located in Kohima, Nagaland.
