Dimapur: The Nagaland government, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Education, will hold a two-day education conclave on NEP 2020 for the northeastern states at Naga United village in Chumoukedima district from Friday to deliberate on the challenges of implementing the new education policy in the region.
Announcing this at a press conference on Thursday, Nagaland Higher and Technical Education Minister Temjen Imna Along said the conclave aims to develop a team to collectively work and play a crucial role in implementing the education policy in the region.
“We look forward to all stakeholders to develop a realistic plan which is flexible, doable and result-oriented,” Along said.
Stating that the NE region faces similar challenges in implementing the policy, he said the conclave envisages strengthening “our commitment” to resolve these challenges facing the institutions by designing a task list and action plan.
During the conference, Along said mentoring of the implementing institutions and empowering them with critical management interventions and capacity-building will be planned with the consensus of the stakeholders.
Stressing that NEP 2020 needs a significant increase in funding for higher education, he said the government needs to find a way to increase funding for higher education without putting an undue burden on the students.
On implementation of the policy in Nagaland, Along called for investment to expand the capacity of higher education institutions by building new colleges and universities and improving the infrastructure of the existing institutions.
Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Sarita Yadav, said all the state governments of the region confirmed their participation in the conclave.
