The Nagaland Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (NSSATA) has announced that it would wind up its ongoing phase-I pen down strike on May 10 and begin phase-II agitation in the form of boycotting classes.

The association is demanding implementation of 7th Revision of Pay in line with regular state employees and inclusion in the non-plan budget of the State.

In a press statement, NSSATA president, Penthungo Y Yanthan, and general secretary, Vinoka Sohe, stated that the executives along with district representatives held a consultative meeting on May 1 last with the advisor of the State Education Department, Principal Secretary, director and other officials from the Education Department.

This was followed by another consultative meeting with the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary, School Education on May 3 last.

However, they stated that the meetings did not yield any result for a substantial solution and the demands could not be addressed.

Therefore, NSSATA through the press release has informed its members that phase-I agitation would be brought to an end on Thursday and phase-II agitation in the form of boycotting of classes would be initiated from Friday till further notice.

NSSATA also affirmed that it would not rest until their demands were met.

NSSATA, while expressing appreciation to the members for their cooperation extended till date, also informed them to strictly adhere to the agitation programme.

The association further cautioned its members that strict disciplinary actions would be taken in case of defiance by any of the members.
