The Gaon Burhas Union (Sadar) and the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation on Friday issued a new set of instructions for all GBs (village headmen) and chairmen of colonies under Dimapur municipal area to stem possible influx of illegal immigrants from Assam following publication of the final draft NRC on July 30.
At a consultative meeting held here, both the organisations discussed effective implementation of the order by Dimapur deputy commissioner to take measures to strictly monitor influx of people from outside the state in violation of the existing rules within their respective jurisdiction. The DC issued the order following a directive by the state home secretary to all concerned, especially village and colony authorities, in this connection.

The home secretary had also directed that any such influx from outside the state should be promptly brought to the notice of the district administration or police and to properly check and verify the antecedents of new tenants.
The organisations also asked them to conduct census of all existing tenants from outside the state with proper verification, besides directing house owners through official order or letter not to allot space to any new tenant without the consent and approval of the colony council and GBs. The house owner should be held responsible and answerable in case they shelter any outsider without proper verification by the colony authority, they said.
They further asked GBs and colony chairmen to conduct verification drive from time to time to ensure that unregistered tenants were not given shelter.

The Naga Students’ Federation, the United Naga Tribes’ Association of Border Areas and the Central Nagaland Tribes’ Council have asked the Nagaland government to take concrete steps to check possible influx of illegal migrants.
