The Naga Council of Dimapur has begun construction of the boundary wall and traditional gate at new Naga cemetery in Zani village area from Saturday through funds raised from individuals and well-wishers.
In a statement issued to the media n Sunday, the general secretary of the Naga Council of Dimapur, Thsapongkyu Sangtam pointed out that as the old Naga cemetery located at Lake View Colony has run out of space for burial, the council approved plans for developing a new cemetery at Zani village.
He further added that shortage of funds resulted in delay in construction and maintaining the new cemetery. However, he added that the work has finally begun.
He also expressed his gratitude to all those who have come forward and contributed so far for the new cemetery.
The Naga Council general secretary further appealed to all stakeholders to extend cooperation to the ongoing new Naga cemetery project, so that it can be commissioned at the earliest and on time.
He further added that though the new cemetery is being built, the existing one at Lake View Colony still needs to be maintained.
