The ‘Aowli Festival’ hosted by Watsü Mungdang, Mokokchung will be held from December 6 to December 8, 2018 at Mokokchung in Nagaland.
Aowli – ‘Towards a Sustainable Livelihood’, literally means anything that endures and sustains, and is able to withstand all weather.

Launched in December 2017, the Aowli Festival will be a yearly event, where Ao people cutting across all sections of society will come together to showcase, sell and purchase, promote, and a platform for meeting of the minds and ideas for endorsing each other.
The word ‘Aowli’ is also taken as the brand name for anything that is produced and promoted by Watsü Mungdang.
The three-day-long gala event, starting from December 6, will uncover many newer things to experience and feel.

The stalls to be installed at the festival will have handloom and handicrafts; locally grown organic products (rice, vegetables, etc.); home-based food products; indigenous food items; fruits and flowers, livestock, besides food court and local designer clothes and many others.
According to information, at the venue, the visitors will be entertained throughout the day with display of traditional art and crafts, indigenous and fun games, singing, inter-ward Christmas caroling and special presentation by artists, both from within and outside Mokokchung.
The visitors have been requested to visit the festival identifying themselves as to which tribe they belong to by wearing at least something of their traditional attire or ornament.
After the formal launching of the Festival at 10:00 AM on December 6, the first round of competitions will begin.
Later in the evening, the cultural night presentation will begin from 5:00 PM and the fun will continue till it closes.
On December 7, 2018, the evening will be a night for promotion of various Ao artists.
The third day of the festival, the last day, will have ‘The Advent Christmas’.
With a ‘Sing-a-long’ night will bond together all loving souls of Mokokchung to a nostalgic close down of the ‘First Aowli Festival, 2018.’
Bonfire and Barbecue will also add some warmth to the entire fanfare.
According to information, the competitions to be held at the festival are: Tug of War- (Inter Ward for both Men and Women); Christmas Tree Décor Competition (Town Churches); Spear Target Competition; Catapult Shooting Competition and Stilt Bamboo Walk Competition.
Some of the exhibits of the festival are: Traditional Loin Loom Demo; Cotton Spinning; Pottery and Basketry.
