Kohima: The Janata Dal United Nagaland (JD-U) has expressed its support for the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI)‘s decision to shut down businesses in protest against extortion by various Naga political groups.

In a press release, the JD(U) stated that the CNCCI’s frustration is a clear indication of the dire situation faced by the business community and Naga society as a whole.

The JU-U added that a “mass uprising” was necessary to address the issue, as relying solely on the government and law enforcement has proven ineffective due to a lack of political will.

The organisation further criticized the underground groups that use extortion disguised as “taxation for the Naga political cause” for personal gain.

They claimed that these groups were treating businesses like ATMs, prompting the CNCCI to take drastic action.

The party emphasized that economic independence is crucial for achieving political independence.

They further that hindering economic growth undermines the entire purpose of the Naga political movement.

The JD-U also criticized the display of wealth by some Naga leaders during the struggle for independence.
