The Commissioner and Secretary of Industries and Commerce Department along with the Director of Industries and Commerce and General Managers of all the district industries centres visited the Longwa International Border Trade Centre at Mon in Nagaland on July 14 as a team for the first time, an official release said on Wednesday.

The tour was initiated as an exposure programme for the officials of the department to help understand border trade as currently being practiced and also to provide inputs to facilitate formal trade against the barter trade system prevalent.

The officials interacted with the locals of the area and also visited the border trade infrastructure already developed at Lungwa by the State Government.

Site for construction of a common facility centre for handicraft cluster at Longwa under the North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) was also identified during the visit.

Coupled with the exposure programme, a coordination-cum-review and evaluation meeting of the general managers with the heads of departments and administrative heads of departments was also held in Mon.

Issues on implementation of schemes and programmes of the department in various districts and matters on coordination thereof were also discussed in the meeting.  A review of performance of all the district industries centres and their activities was also taken up during the meeting.
